Method 1: Restart BITS services to fix error code 0X80080008

BITS stand for Background Intelligent Transfer Service which plays a key role in system updates. Thus, in some occasions, there may be chances for BITS to stop working and crash. Thus, in most of the occasions, restarting the service will help you to fix error code 0X80080008.

Follow these steps to restart BITS services

  • Open the run command by selecting Run option or (Windows + R) key
  • Type msc in the run box and press Enter.
  • Search for BITS service in the list provided
  • Check whether its running and if not, right click àselectàstart on the BITS service
  • Open properties by right click
  • Select recovery tab
  • Check first and second failures are set to Restart service
  • Save the selection

Now check for the updates. For some users, this method will fix the error code 0X80080008 and no need to try for other methods. If this method didn’t work for you, then move to the next one.

Method 2: Change Registry Files to fix error code 0X80080008

Since we are going to make some changes in the registry file, I would recommend you keep a backup of all your important files for safer side. Let’s move on to the steps for changing the registry file to fix error code 0X80080008.

  • Open a notepad file
  • Create a notepad with name “.bat”
  • Paste the below instruction in the “Register.bat” file.

          REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL /S


          REGSVR32 WUWEBV.DLL /S

  • Now save the notepad with “.bat” extension
  • Run the file by right click à”Run as Administrator”
  • Click ok if prompted for permission.
  • Now reboot your system.

After a successful reboot, now try installing the updates. In most of the case, this method should fix error code 0X80080008.

Method 3: Scan with SFC tool to fix error code 0X80080008

There are some changes to your system files to get corrupted which will stop you from updating your OS. In this method, we are going to use SFC tool to check whether all systems files running perfectly. This is an easy step which you can perform directly from your command prompt.

Follow these steps to perform SFC scan

  • Open Command Prompt by right clicking à Command (from Start Menu) [Open with Admin privilege]
  • In the command line type sfc/scannow

Now the system will search for systems files and repair them if any of them are corrupted. In this method, you can fix error code 0X80080008 using SFC tool.

Method 4: Clean up Windows Image to fix error code 0X80080008

Like the last method, we are going to perform this by using command prompt under administrator privileges. In this step, we will use DISM command to check the files to fix error code 0X80080008.

Follow these steps

  • Open Command Prompt by right clicking à Command (from Start Menu) [Open with Admin privilege]
  • In the command line type “exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth”
  • Press Enter
  • It will take some time to finish checking the files.

Once it was done, restart your computer. Now try to install your updates and you should be able to fix the error code 0X80080008 in this step. In most of the case, any of the above four different methods will help you to resolve this issue.
